Nelson Mandela remains in hospital, says South Africa government

Eminent African leader Nelson Mandela remains in the hospital in a critical but stable condition, the South African government said Saturday, correcting earlier reports that he had been released. 

A notice released by the office of South Africa's president said the 95-year-old Mandela was in "critical but stable condition," adding that  he at times "becomes unstable, but he responds to medical interventions."

It's been a long stay for Mandela, who was admitted to the Pretoria hospital on June 8th for a recurrent lung infection, his longest stint of treatment since his 1990 prison release.

Daughter Zindzi Mandela said in June that her father appeared to be getting better, and the family may be hoping to move him back to the former presidential home if his strength permits it, per the BBC. 

 "He just doesn't have the strength of a man, he has the strength that is beyond anything that can be explained," the younger Mandela said. "Because even now with the challenges to his health, he somehow manages to bounce back when everyone assumes this is the end."

Well-wishers still leaves messages and flowers for "Madiba" at a wall nearby the facility, writes Times Live.
