Mexico violence: Gunman kills 7 in bar shooting in Chihuahua

AUTLAN, Mexico – A gunman shot dead seven people in a bar in northern Mexico early Friday, in the latest violent attack in the country.

The masked man, armed with an AK-47 assault rifle, killed four men and three women in the “Mogavi” bar in Chihuahua, the capital city of the state with the same name. Two others were injured.

The men were customers in the bar, while the women worked there.

"It has not been determined whether the attack is connected to drug trafficking, but by the type of weapon involved, it is to be assumed," Carlos Gonzalez, a spokesman for the state attorney general’s office, was quoted by Reuters as saying.

Chihuahua has been a battleground between the Juarez and Sinaloa drug cartels, which have been fighting for control of key smuggling routes into the United States.
