Ottawa hospital admits four patients, 3 in stable condition

Reuters — Ottawa Hospital received four patients, three of whom are in stable condition, following shootings in the Canadian capital on Wednesday, the hospital said in a statement.

One of the patients was treated for a gunshot wound that was not considered life threatening. All three patients in stable condition are being kept at hospital. The patients arrived between 10:20 a.m. ET and 12:43 p.m., it said.

A Canadian soldier was shot dead at the National War Memorial in downtown Ottawa and a suspected gunman was shot and killed in the nearby parliament buildings.

Canadian soldier shot near parliament has reportedly died

Agence France-Presse — A soldier who was shot at a war memorial at the start of an attack by one or more gunmen on Canada's parliament has died of his wounds, a government minister said.

"Condolences to family of the soldier killed and prayers for the parliamentary guard wounded. Canada will not be terrorized or intimidated," employment minister Jason Kenney said on Twitter.

Ottawa police investigating 3 shooting incidents

Reuters — Canadian police are investigating three shooting incidents that took place in Ottawa on Wednesday, one at the Canadian war memorial, one at Parliament Hill, and one near a nearby shopping mall, Ottawa police said.

"Incidents occurred at National War Memorial, near the Rideau Centre and Parliament Hill this morning," Ottawa Police said on their Twitter feed.

All three locations are within a few hundred meters (yards) of each other in downtown Ottawa. A soldier was shot at the war memorial and the gunman was chased into the parliament buildings, where a suspect was shot and killed.

Police kill a shooter in Canadian parliament attack

Agence France-Presse — Police killed at least one of the shooters involved in an attack in and around the Canadian parliament, CBC television and a politician who was inside the building said.

MP Maurice Vellacott told AFP that House of Commons security had told one of his aides that a suspect had been killed inside parliament.

The police were hunting for as many as three suspects and one was "probably" on the roof of the parliament in downtown Ottawa, police told AFP.
