Hospice murder-suicide investigated in Pennsylvania

An 83-year-old woman was already dying when she was shot and killed by her husband, police say. It's not clear however if the crime was malicious or an act of mercy.

The woman, Mildred Osman, was a patient in the hospice at the Leigh Valley Hospital in Pennsylvania, NBC reported. Her husband Elwood Osman is accused of shooting her in the room where she stayed before turning the gun on himself and committing suicide.

No one witnessed the shooting, and the man gave hospital staff no indication that he was planning the shootings, CBS reported.

“It’s a love story,” Jim Geiger Senior Vice President of Operations at Lehigh Valley Health Network, told KYW. “The elderly gentleman could not bear to see his wife suffering, and the family, I believe, have observed that he could not envision living without her.”
