GlobalPost seeks senior editor in Boston

GlobalPost

Is this the kind of journalism you believe in?

Then we want to hear from you.

The ever-growing, award-winning, whip-smart and world-savvy international news start-up known as GlobalPost is hiring a senior editor.

The ideal candidate has reporting and editing expertise in political economy and/or conflict, especially in the Middle East. He or she is web savvy and well-traveled, with experience working abroad and the rare ability to write global news with plenty of voice. This editor will be responsible for managing several full-time field correspondents as well as freelancers, and must have skill, energy, creativity, flexibility, a sense of humor, and play nice with others. At least 5 years of professional experience is preferred.

We are looking for a professional with a journalism background who brings rock-solid news judgment as well as strong digital skills; someone who is not just an editor, but also a proven content producer who knows and revels in the vernacular of the web.

The senior editor will be responsible for creating smart, timely and provocative digital content every day, and for coming up with original and unusual story ideas in tandem with correspondents in the field. Candidates should be comfortable users and consumers of social media and have familiarity with search engine optimization, content management systems, and all the standard practices of web publishing. Successful candidates will also be enthusiastic about learning and using all the emerging digital tools now available to creative journalists. The position is based in Boston, and candidates must have legal work status in the United States.

Applicants should send an email with the subject line "Senior editor position" to Editor Thomas Mucha (tmucha @ globalpost.com), Managing Editor Lizzy Tomei (ltomei @ globalpost.com), and Social Media Editor Peter Gelling (pgelling @ globalpost.com). Please include a cover letter, resume, three references and links to your work and social media profiles. No phone calls, please.
