The family of a Georgia toddler was home when the little girl was mauled to death by seven dogs.

The toddler, identified as Monica Renee Laminack, who would have turned 2 in June, reportedly crawled out a doggie door and was set upon in the yard of her home in Ellabell, about 30 miles west of Savannah.

According to WTOC.com in Georgia, five people were home at around 6 p.m. when the mauling occurred, including Monica's 12-year-old uncle, who was assigned to watch her.

Bryan County Sheriff Clyde Smith told the Savannah Morning News that the the child's grandmother was asleep when she heard barking and looked out a window to see the girl being dragged about by the family's dogs.

Smith said the grandmother began yelling, "They’re killing Monica!"

When an ambulance arrived Wednesday evening, the girl was dead.

Bryan County Deputy Sheriff James Beatty told the Morning News:

"When we got here and spoke to EMS, they told us that when they got here, she was already cold. There was nothing they could do."

The Savannah Morning News newspaper cited the authorities as saying that the dogs — pit bulls and pit bull mixes — had been euthanized by Bryan County Animal Control.

It was unclear whether charges would be filed against the girl's 18-year-old mother.
