Atlanta: 18 injured in shuttle bus crash near airport

Eighteen people were injured Friday in a crash between a hotel shuttle bus and a tractor-trailer near Atlanta's airport.

The crash occurred on North Loop Road around 10:30 a.m. in front of the AirTran hangar near the exit from I-85 northbound, and involved a shuttle that served Hampton Inn, Fairfield Inn and Hilton hotels.

Nine of the 18 on the bus at the time of the accident were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, including one person in critical condition. The other nine were taken to Atlanta Medical Center.

It was no immediately clear what caused the accident, but the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that shots from a news helicopter showed that the shuttle bus ran into the left side of the tractor-trailer while apparently trying to make a U-turn.
