Valentine’s Day movies that are better than ‘Valentine’s Day’

The World

Garry Marshall’s latest star-packed (one might say “star-stuffed”) romantic comedy extravaganza, “Valentines Day,” hits theaters this weekend, but is it really all that? Takeaway movie contributor and Newsday writer Rafer Guzman doesn’t think so. In fact, he believes that for several of the film’s major plot lines, there are other movies that do a much better job of covering the same ground.

For example, if you’re looking for a better romance featuring older adults than Shirley MacLaine and Hector Elizondo’s in “Valentine’s Day,” Rafer suggests you go out and rent “On Golden Pond.” And if you’re looking for a film that does the “you were right there all along” plotline (played out by Jennifer Garner and Ashton Kutcher in “Valentine’s Day”), Rafer thinks “Clueless” is your best bet.

Listen for the rest of Rafer’s suggestions, and leave your own favorite Valentine’s Day movies in the comments.
