Now we’re facing a brutal reminder of that saga as the U.S. Postal Service faces default  because of a huge $9.2 billion deficit. The Postal Service could shut down as soon as this winter. Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe has pushed cost cutting measures like cutting service on Saturdays, closing post offices and cutting postal workers. Today the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee will hold a hearing to address the financial situation of the postal service. Joining us to talk about the U.S. postal system’s economic troubles  is  James Campbell, an independent consultant and expert in postal policy.
