The paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, who tried to take over Sudan in a surprise attack on Khartoum almost two years ago, made the presidential palace one of their first objectives. During the back-and-forth fighting in Khartoum, the RSF took it and held it, until recently when the Sudanese Armed Forces grabbed it back. It’s symbolic of the story of the grinding civil war that has laid waste to most of the country.
