Using a Google search and laser technology, an archaeology PhD student accidentally discovered what may be one of the most important cities from the Classic period of Mayan civilization (between the years 250–900). The hidden city, located under the present-day Mexican state of Campeche, has more than 6,000 structures, including pyramids, and could accommodate up to 50,000 inhabitants.
