Gustavo Gutiérrez, a Peruvian priest and originator of a school of thought called “liberation theology” died this week at a convent in Lima. His teachings challenged the Catholic Church hierarchy and helped spark Latin American social movements, as Gustavo Morello, a Jesuit priest and professor of sociology at Boston College tells The World’s Carolyn Beeler.
