Border dispute between India and China threatens livelihoods of local herders and farmers

Since August, India and China have been in talks, hoping to resolve long-standing border issues that date back to 1962. That’s when the two Asian superpowers fought a monthlong war along an ill-defined border running through the Himalayas. The fighting ended when China declared a ceasefire and occupied a territory known as Aksai Chin which India continues to claim. Even now, occasional border standoffs threaten the livelihoods of nomads and farmers in the region. Priyanka Shankar tells the story from Ladakh, in northwest India.
