Brazil’s wildfires release record greenhouse gas emissions

In Brazil, the cumulative total estimated carbon emissions so far in 2024 have been higher than average. This is largely due to the wildfire emissions from the Amazon region, and notably the states of Amazonas and Mato Grosso do Sul — where most of the Pantanal wetlands are located.
