On Thursday, US Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield announced that the the United States supports creating two permanent United Nations Security Council seats for African states and one seat to be rotated among small island developing states. Updating the Security Council is something that critics say is badly needed as just five countries (US, UK, France, China, Russia) have dominated the UN decision-making body for nearly 80 years.
