A man in the south of France is now on trial for drugging his wife and then inviting dozens of men to rape her, over the course of nearly a decade. The case has shocked France and renewed calls for the country to redefine rape as sex without consent rather than intercourse committed by “violence, coercion, threat or surprise.” Carolyn Beeler speaks to Anne-Cécile Mailfert, president of Fondation Des Femmes,  the Women’s Foundation, which raises funds to support groups specializing in women’s rights and fighting violence against women.
