Today, the athletics community across East Africa is mourning the death of 33-year-old Ugandan Olympic runner Rebecca Cheptegei. She had been fighting for her life after reportedly being doused in petrol by her partner. For many, it’s drawing similarities to other acts of violence against female athletes in Kenya, and stirring up anger about the state of femicide in the country.
