South Africa’s ruling party loses majority in historic election

The historic results of South Africa’s national elections were announced over the weekend. For the first time since it came to power, the ruling African National Congress, the party of Nelson Mandela, has lost its absolute majority. In its 30 years of leadership since the end of apartheid, the ANC has been mired by corruption scandals and a failure to deliver economic prosperity to South Africans.
