Spain’s quartz industry tries to reduce dangerous exposure, but risks remain

Spain is where quartz countertops first took off and where hundreds of cases of silicosis soon developed. Today, modern machines and clearer safety rules are meant to keep workers healthy. But some worry that no matter what steps the industry takes, silica dust will still reach workers’ lungs. The World’s Gerry Hadden reports from the southern town of Montemayor, Spain.
