The World

Stories of migrants creating new home and communities, often in the face of racism, is a familiar theme right now. But it also resonates for women who left the Caribbean for the United Kingdom, during the “Windrush generation.” From 1948 to 1971, Windrush migrants sailed to Britain and helped fill the post-war labor shortage. A new stage production celebrates the stories of women who were part of the Windrush. The BBC’s arts correspondent, Rebecca Jones, spoke to the creators of the opera, “Memories in Mind: Memories of the Windrush.”
