Last month, President Joe Biden mapped out an ambitious plan for responding to the pandemic. It went beyond vaccines and masks to newer COVID-19 treatments like antiviral drugs developed by Pfizer. A safe and effective drug for the coronavirus could make a big difference in future surges, but as The World’s Elana Gordon reports, many worry about a repeat of what happened with vaccines, that access to these drugs will be a challenge in the immediate future, in some of the places that could benefit most.
