Wikipedia’s efforts to get its 300 language versions on the same page

Wikipedia exists in more than 300 languages, but half of them have fewer than 10 active contributors. That’s created enormous discrepancies in quality and accuracy, for example, a local language in the Philippines still listing Dianne Feinstein as mayor of San Francisco. But entries in other languages betray a political agenda: Until recently, Croatian Wikipedia referred to a concentration camp in Nazi-allied Croatia during World War II as a “collection camp.”  Wikipedia has announced an effort to address the problem with a language-independent project called Wikifunctions. Marco Werman speaks with Denny Vrandečić, head of special projects at Wikimedia Foundation, the nonprofit that owns and operates Wikipedia.
