Magnesium is a critical element in making automobiles. It’s used to make aluminum stronger and cars lighter, which results in better gas mileage. But now, it is in short supply, which could wreak havoc on the auto industry. China controls about 85% of the global magnesium market but Beijing has reduced its production to conserve its power supply. Marco Werman speaks with Abey Abraham of Ducker Worldwide, a consulting firm, about how critical magnesium is to the auto industry.
