Why the booze ban led to a marmite shortage in South Africa

South Africa experienced the worst shortages of the yeasty toast topping, marmite, since the end of apartheid. Why? The gooey substance is a byproduct of making alcohol, which was banned when COVID-19 was ravaging the country. It’s finally coming back on the shelves but Dylan Barry, a writer for The Economist in Johannesburg, says the jars are being snapped up by those desperate to get their hands on it.
