‘Walrus from space’ project asks the public for help counting animals

The World

On the ground, it’s hard to miss a walrus, but when you’re trying to find them across the vast arctic landscape where they live, it’s trickier. The British Antarctic Survey and WWF-UK are teaming up to enlist half a million volunteers to help them count walruses from thousands of satellite images. Scientists hope that more data about walruses can help guide decisions about how to help the animals survive climate change in the future. The World’s Anna Kusmer reports.
