Venezuelans turn out in low numbers to vote for controversial referendum

Venezuela voters were asked over the weekend if they agree with the government’s plans to reclaim the Essequibo territory, which years ago was given to Guyana. It’s a large strip of land that stretches from the Atlantic ocean to the Amazon rainforest. No one was too interested in the area until rich-oil reserves were discovered there.
