US says Russia is violating the only remaining arms agreement between the two countries

The US says Russia is violating the New START treaty, the last remaining nuclear arms agreement between the two countries, by not allowing American inspectors into Russian nuclear weapons facilities. That’s a requirement of the treaty, which the Biden administration renewed for another five years in 2021. Marco Werman talks about the evidence behind the charges, Russia’s response and the backdrop of the war in Ukraine with Rose Gottemoeller who as assistant secretary of state for arms control, verification and compliance in 2009 and 2010, served as the chief US negotiator of the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (New START) with Russia. She’s now a professor at Stanford University.
