Turkmenistan’s massive methane gas leaks

Methane is a serious contributor to global warming. New data revealed by the British news site The Guardian yesterday shows that Turkmenistan, a sparsely populated, fossil fuel-rich country in Central Asia has made outsized contributions to global emissions. Methane leaks from just two extraction fields in the country released as much temperature-raising gases as the entirety of the United Kingdom’s annual emissions for last year, according to the data collected by the environmental intelligence company Kayrros. The World’s host Marco Werman spoke to Kayrros’ co-founder and chief analyst Antoine Halff to learn more.
