Over the last decade, Tunisia has become a long-term way station for migrants and asylum-seekers trying to reach Europe. Migrants and refugees from sub-Saharan Africa say that there’s no work for them in Tunisia, and that they face racism and difficult living conditions. Very few are able to enter an official UN resettlement in Europe or North America, and many try to cross the Mediterranean in small vessels. In Tunis, Lilia Blaise spoke to some asylum-seekers who are housed by the UN High Commission of Refugees on what has led them to protest their situation in Tunisia.
