Thwaites glacier, revisited

The World

It’s been a big year for scientists learning more about how a changing climate will impact Earth’s oceans, ice sheets and glaciers. Earlier this year, The World’s Carolyn Beeler embedded on an icebreaker in Antarctica for two months to follow scientists trying to answer one of climate science’s key questions: how fast will Antarctica’s ice sheets melted, and how much will that push up global sea levels? All this week, we’ll be re-visiting Carolyn’s epic journey to Thwaites Glacier, starting today with a dispatch filed while the ship tried leave port.
