The unrest in Hong Kong appears to have entered a new phase. For weeks now, mass protests have contested China’s efforts to more closely integrate Hong Kong — currently a self-governing territory within the People’s Republic of China. Last night, thugs in white T-shirts and masks assaulted protesters, injuring at least 45. Host Marco Werman speaks with Lynette Ong of the University of Toronto, whose research focuses on China’s outsourcing of coercion.
