The Syrian map and Russia’s role in it

The World

The situation in Syria is constantly shifting. On Wednesday, Donald Trump declared the Syria ceasefire permanent and lifted all sanctions on Turkey. On Tuesday, Russia and Turkey agreed to a deal to push Kurdish forces out of Syria. US forces, meanwhile, are streaming into Iraq. With all this news, The World’s host Marco Werman takes a minute to go over the map of the region and give an overview of what’s going on. Then, he focuses in on one player in the region — Russia. He also interviews Olga Ivshina with the BBC’s Russian Service, about Russia’s involvement in Syria and the long-term plan in the Middle East.
