US Surgeon General Murthy has called loneliness a public health crisis. Japan and the UK are countries who now have a Minister of Loneliness to address the problem. And there’s increasing concern around the world that a problem that was once associated with the elderly is now prevalent among young people. Marco Werman speaks with Julianne Holt-Lunstad, a professor of psychology and neuroscience at Brigham Young University and the founder of the Global Initiative on Loneliness and Connection, about the health effects of loneliness and what initiatives around the globe seem to be helping people actually connect.
