The day after the Beirut blast

The World

Fatima al-Mahmoud, 22, is the senior editor for beirut.com. Mahmoud lives just minutes away from the Beirut port, and yesterday, when the blast shook the city, she felt the impact. At the time, she was at home with her 12-year-old brother. When they heard the explosion, they thought it might be a bomb. Now, Mahmoud and her brother find themselves in a “ghost town” in ruins, trying to recover and to understand what happened. Host Marco Werman speaks with Fatima al-Mahmoud.
