Hundreds of thousands of civilians are on the run in Syria, as the regime of President Bashar al-Assad pushes into the rebels’ last stronghold. Turkish and Syrian government troops have traded fire in recent days, further raising tensions. Shawnee State University history professor Amr al-Azm, an archeologist who fled Syria, tells The World’s Marco Werman that civilians have few options, since Turkey has closed its border to those fleeing bombardments.
