Sri Lankan doctors say country can’t survive for long on donated drugs

Sri Lanka’s financial crisis means the country can’t import everything it needs from abroad, including essential drugs and medical supplies. Shortages abound at hospitals, for items as common as catheters, morphine and common antibiotics. For the past few months, donations have been keeping the country’s health system running, but doctors warn that they can’t last forever. The World’s Carolyn Beeler speaks with doctors, patients and the government official in charge of sourcing the donations that are keeping the country’s hospitals afloat.
