Rise in US tourists to Mexico endangers locals

Mexico continues to grapple with an intensifying coronavirus outbreak. The country’s economy is also taking a beating. In June, ahead of other countries in Latin America, Mexico reopened before it was able to control its first wave of infections. It is also welcoming international visitors — including US tourists — without restrictions, such as proof of a virus-free test. One consequence is that the country has become a cautionary tale in terms of pitting the economy against public health. Shannon Young reports from the southern Mexican state of Oaxaca.
