Rich ‘dark earth’ used by Amazonians builds one man’s Cape Cod garden

Jutting out into the Atlantic Ocean, it’s not a surprise that parts of Cape Cod are largely sand. One industrious Massachusetts farmer decided to enrich his dirt by adding man-made soil used by Indigenous peoples in the Amazon. The fire-based technique worked and doubled the size of his turnips. Reporter Elspeth Hay reported this story with Atlantic Public Radio for station WCAI.
