After the military in Sudan seized power in a 2021 coup, the internet and phone systems were down across the country. In response, some mosques in Sudan used their minarets to denounce the coup. Civilian leaders are trying to move the country away from military rule. And some are calling on the mosques to continue to play an active role in political affairs. The World’s Halima Gikandi visited one mosque in Sudan to listen to the Friday sermon and speak with some of the faithful there.
