Projection: Indonesian elects ex-general Prabowo as president

Official results might not be ready for a month, but the favorite to be Indonesia’s next president is Prabowo Subianto. He’s a former army general with links to Indonesia’s days under dictatorship, which ended in the late 1990s. Prabowo belongs to the current ruling political faction — a mostly centrist force credited with steering Indonesia away from its dark past — but he will have to work overtime to convince skeptics that he has truly abandoned his autocratic ways.
