New Zealand volcano eruption leaves many unaccounted for

New Zealand’s most active volcano is on White Island. It draws tourists from around the world. But on Monday, a “throat-clearing” eruption blanketed the sky and island in ash and smoke. Volcanologists say the eruption is not totally unexpected: The island has been on higher alert recently. Police have reported at least five deaths and many more are unaccounted for.
