In a recent apology from Stuff media, editorial director Mark Stevens wrote that their “coverage of Māori issues over the past 160 years ranged from racist to blinkered.” He continued: “If we’ve been monocultural in our reporting – and we have – we haven’t been diverse. Therefore, we haven’t always been trustworthy.” The apology comes after an internal investigation during which about 20 Stuff journalists analyzed the company’s portrayal and representation of Māori in its print and digital publications.
