New proposed EU rule set to standardize smartphone charging cables

At this point, in 2021, there’s no doubt that we’re in the wireless era. But yet, for the wireless era, we still have lots of wires to untangle — literally. We have HDMI cables, AUX cables, and of course, every type of charger you can dream up, from USB-C to Apple’s lighting cables. The European Commission has proposed a new rule that would standardize charging cables for smartphones, tablets and other electronic devices. Host Marco Werman speaks with Wayne Lam, the senior director of research with CCS Insight, where he studies mobile devices, wireless technology and associated supply chains.
