Patrice Lumumba was a major figure of post-colonial Africa. When the country known today as Democratic Republic of Congo gained independence from Belgium in 1960, Lumumba became the country’s first prime minister. But his death less than a year later involved more than one culprit. A new book by Foreign Affairs Magazine Executive Editor Stuart Reid examines the evidence of US involvement in Lumumba’s execution. The World’s host Carol Hills learned more from Reid about his book, “The Lumumba Plot: The Secret History of the CIA and a Cold War Assassination,” and present relations between the US and DR Congo.
