Nadia Murad is an Iraqi Yazidi who was captured by ISIS and endured three months as a sex slave at the hands of the militants. After escaping captivity in November 2014, she became an activist for the Yazidi people, campaigning to help put an end to human trafficking and calling on the world to take a tougher line on rape as a weapon of war. She is the first Iraqi to win the Nobel Peace Prize.
At The World, we believe strongly that human-centered journalism is at the heart of an informed public and a strong democracy. We see democracy and journalism as two sides of the same coin. If you care about one, it is imperative to care about the other.
