Malawi — the poorest country in Africa — would join four other southern African countries in legalizing industrial hemp. And cannabis could be a good path to economic fortune. Nebert Nyirenda used to work in Malawi’s Ministry of Finance. In an atypical career move, he dropped that job to grow cannabis. Nyirenda is now the director and co-founder of Invegrow, the first company in Malawi allowed to research industrial hemp. The World’s Marco Werman speaks with Nyirenda about the economic benefits of legalizing cannabis in Malawi.
