Maine has become the first state in the country that will force large companies to pay for the packaging waste they create. This month, the state passed a law forcing large companies to pay for waste processing, and nearly a dozen states are on track to pass similar laws. Scott Cassel, CEO and founder of the Product Stewardship Institute in Boston, has been fighting for this legislation. He tells The World’s host Marco Werman that the movement in the US is directly inspired by similar laws.
