Les Amazones D’Afrique break their silence

The World

Les Amazones D’Afrique is a supergroup comprised of women from across the African continent and across generations. As musicians, things are going well, but the subjects of their music are heavy. They have messages of female empowerment and success, but they also tackle sensitive topics such as abuse and female genital mutilation. Marco Werman recently met two members of the ensemble: Fafa Ruffino, who is from Benin in West Africa, and Niariu, who is from France with roots in Guinea.
