Italy’s Oscar entry highlights migrants’ perilous journey to Europe

The World

Italy adopts a typically hard-line approach toward migration policy but the country’s entry for this year’s Oscars is a film depicting the harrowing journey many Africans undertake attempting to reach Italian shores. Io Capitano follows the story of two Senegalese teenagers who dream about living in Europe. The movie is directed by Italian filmmaker Matteo Garrone, whose films include “Dogman” and “Gomorrah.” The World’s Europe correspondent Orla Barry reports.
