President Biden is in Tokyo today on his first trip to Asia as president. When asked during a news conference if the US was willing to get involved militarily in the event that China attacked Taiwan, Biden said, “Yes … That’s a commitment we made.” Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin responded by saying that Beijing expresses “strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition” to Biden’s comments.
